Check Out Local Tax Increases On The Nov. 3 Ballot
LRWF Legislative Liason Liz Froelich provided the information below on proposed tax increases on the November 3 ballot for Contra Costa County and several cities. She also advises members to request the Governor veto SB 1349 which would allow the county and cities to ignore the California Revenue and Taxation 2% cap and allow for increases in the sales tax. Contact the Governor All need a majority to pass.
The GOP opposes the following four increases:
(1) Contra Costa County is seeking a 1/2 cent sales tax increase, exempting food sales.
(2) Concord proposes to extend a 1 cent sales tax until ended by voters.
(3) Orinda propoesl to increase the 1/2 cent sales tax to 1 cent for 20 years.
(4) Richmond proposes to charge businesses 0.06% to 5.0% of gross recipts.
The County Republican Party has no opinion on the following measures:
(1) Alamo Parks & Recreation is seeking an increases in appropriations limit to $1.75 million and adjust for cost of living.
(2) Antioch proposes to change the General Plan within the Sand Creek Focus area.
(3) Pittsburg is seeking to change the city clerk position from elected to appointed.
