Parents Seek To Gain Control of Education
The emergence of Critical Race Theory in California’s public schools is the “latest chapter in the cultural wars of Marxism,” explained educator Larry Sand, the guest speaker at the Lamorinda Republican Women Federated’s General Meeting last week. Sand, the president of the non-profit California Teachers Empowerment Network, noted that adherents to Critical Race Theory are trying to make this the window through which American life is viewed, which would “lead to the dismantling of all societal norms.”
“This is a one-way street which ends in equity and in which equality has no place,” said Sand, whose non-profit is dedicated to providing teachers and the general public with reliable and balanced information about educational issues. A former classroom teacher, he also pointed out to the 56 members and guests that while a poll shows 74 percent of people are opposed to this racist training, “the left now has us cowed.”
A state law passed last fall, AB 101, mandates all public school students take one semester of a course on “equity.” But as Sand pointed out, the content of that course now is in the hands of each school district.
Some states though are fighting back. “School choice litigation is progressing at breakneck speed as parents are working to gain control of their children’s education,” he continued.”In 2021, 19 states started school choice programs.”
An initiative to place School Choice on the state ballot for the November elections is being circulated. The deadline for the group to collect more than one million signatures is early April.
