LRWF Turns 70 This Year
In June of 1950, Jean St. Hill, who lived in Orinda, gathered together a group of women to form a Republican women’s organization. While the group started out as an indepndent club, in the spring of 1951, the club became a member of the California Federation of Republican Women for the Orinda Republican Women’s Club. In 1980 the group was renamed the Orinda-Moraga Republican Women, Federated to reflect the geographical area. It subsequently became Lamorinda Republican Women, Federated as the membership expanded.
Today LRWF continues as part of the National Federation of Republican Women, one of the largest grassroots political organizations in the country. Started in 1938, the federation’s purpose to is empower women from all backgrounds in the political process and provide a forum for women to serve as leaders in the political, government, and civic area.
