The Recall Newsom Gains Momentum

The effort to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom has reached a milestone of more than 1 million signatures collected. However, 1.8 million are needed before the mid-March deadline, according to Anne Hyde Dunsmore, former finance chair of the California Republican Party and an honorary chair of Rescue California which is gathering signatures for the recall effort. The campaign’s goal is 2 million signatures.

A recall election could be held in late August or mid-September. Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and John Cox, who lost to Newsom in 2018, are mong the potential candidates to replace Newsom, Dunsmore notes. The recall effort recently received a big boost with a $500,000 donation from Orange County investor John Kruger. Other significant donations have been received including $49,500 from the Hoffman Land Development Company of Walnut Creek.
